NASHVILLE, Tenn. – An ex-convict was arrested Monday night after a Crime Stoppers tip regarding possible drug and gang activity.

Metro Police took 40-year-old Keith J. Watkins into custody Monday night, charging him with five counts of aggravated robbery and possession of a controlled substance.

Gang unit detectives went to the Cumberland Pointe apartment complex on Buena Vista Pike and knocked on the door. Police said Watkins answered, claimed to be someone else, and let the officers inside.

During a sweep, detectives found his real identification as well as a small amount of cocaine.

He was taken into custody on three outstand warrants.

Police said Watkins was the gunman who held up the Subway restaurant at 601 Old Hickory Boulevard as well as the Delta Express on Charlotte Avenue last Thursday night.

He was also charged in the robbery of the Bellagio Pizza at 114 29th Avenue North on August 16, as well as the robberies of the Delta Express on 51st Avenue North and the Daily's Shell on Alabama Avenue, both on August 25.

In several of the cases, the robberies were caught on surveillance. Some of the employees also identified Watkins as the robber in lineups.

Watkins is a convicted robber and car burglar. Police continue to investigate whether he was involved in other crimes.

His bond was set at $305,000.
