Gallatin Man Makes Contact With Wife, Daughter In Philippines

Posted: Updated:

GALLATIN, Tenn. – A Gallatin man has made contact with his wife and daughter, who were in the Philippines when Typhoon Haiyan hit nearly a week ago.

NewsChannel 5 spoke to William Talley last week, who said it had been a nightmare after he could not reach his wife Rose and 3-year-old daughter.

"The American embassy said they had my wife on the other line. My wife is ok," Talley told us by phone Wednesday morning.

His wife and daughter were living in the Philippines for the past few months after Talley came to the U.S. to have knee surgery.

After unsuccessfully contacting the embassy and the White House to help find his family, he said the only thing he knew to do was search the internet for help.

"I've been frantic, in my mind I always felt like there something else I could do, something that I wasn't doing already," Talley said.

In the end, he said U.S. Representative Diane Black helped put them in contact once again.

"She has a Gallatin office because she's from Gallatin. I went in there and signed the privacy act and they promised me they would help me any way possible then tonight I get the phone call," he said.

Thousands were killed and thousands more were displaced after storm, adding to Talley's nightmare.

Talley said his family found safety inland, and now they are trying to figure out how to reunite.

He said the U.S. Embassy has offered to fly them back, but his daughter is sick so they are waiting on travel.
