Fire Scorches 9 Acres In Murfreesboro

Posted: Updated:

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Approximately nine acres burned in a brush fire at the Stones River National Battlefield along Thompson Lane Wednesday afternoon.

Fire officials said the call came in around 2 p.m. from someone who spotted the heavy smoke. Three engine companies, two rescue crews and one brush truck responded to the scene on Wilkinson Pike. Rutherford County Fire & Rescue also assisted.

According to officials, the fire spread quickly due to the wind and burned more than 10 acres. The fire was contained. No one was injured.

Murfreesboro Electric Department and Comcast were on scene after four electrical poles were damaged in the fire. Officials believe the fire was likely caused by someone tossing out a cigarette.
