NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The Acme Feed store has been around since the 1800s. Fast forward more than 200 years later and the 22,500 square-foot space is being transformed through new caretaker Tom Morales.

"What were trying to do is just elevate that real honkytonk experience while honoring it," said Morales.

The Acme building once home to Cummins Grocery, Southern Soda Works and the Bearden Buggy Company will now house an upscale restaurant on the first floor, a lounge on the second floor and the largest one level event and music venue on Broadway on its third floor. Morales says while his plan is to make it fresh and inviting, it's also important not to make it unrecognizable.

"The number one vision is to just keep it as it is visually," he said. "We don't want to change the way it looks. We want it to come back alive."

Morales, famous for Dancing in the District and some very popular Nashville restaurants, will now lease the building for a total of 30 years along with Alan Jackson, Steve Moore and George Boedecker. Lester Turner Junior is turning over the reigns to them after turning away buyers for years.

"The challenge has always been it's a beautiful building, but infrastructure wise it's a huge amount of work to convert it to another use," said Turner.

However, this time, he said, it just felt right. Morales agreed.

"I've kept an eye on it and it happened," Morales said. "I think things happen for a reason. It's the right time and we're excited to be the caretaker."

They're also excited to be part of the transformation of this piece of Nashville history.

The Acme is slated to open by June of next year just in time for the CMA Music Festival.
