WHITE HOUSE, Tenn. - Hundreds of volunteers united in an effort to bring Christmas gifts to children in need around the world.

This is the second year the Life Center Church in White House has participated in "Operation Christmas Child" through Samaritan's Purse.  Last year, church members filled over 250 shoe boxes with personal items and toys for kids in need, this year, they bumped the goal to 1,000.

"We've been given so much, we feel like we need to give it away," said Scott Cooper, Senior Pastor at Life Center Church.  "We pray we can send some hope into the world."

Throughout the year, church members collected items ranging from hats, mittens and socks to school supplies and stuffed animals.  Then all items are divided into categories and organized.  Church members lined up at the White House High School field house to put their favorite items in boxes for kids ages 2-14.

"It is so wonderful," said Misty Cooper, a church member who helped organize the event. "All the giving has been unbelievable.  God has showed up."

Once all the boxes are packed and sealed, the items are shipped all around the world.  Church members can track where the boxes are sent online.  Last year, some were sent to places like Romania and Uganda.

"We've had people involved all year," said Lauree Dorris, a member of Life Center Church.  "It is amazing to see it all come together."

This year marks the 20th anniversary of Operation Christmas Child.  More than 100 million shoe boxes have been delivered to children in need since the project began.
