Police Investigate Self-Defense Claim In Fatal Stabbing

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Police said they continue to investigate a man's claim of self-defense in the fatal stabbing of another man at a homeless camp in Madison on Wednesday night.

Police said 58-year-old Klayton Eammelli reported he stabbed 50-year-old Martin McDonald with a homemade spear during a confrontation behind the Flea Market on South Gallatin Pike. Eammelli told police McDonald had tried to carry off a piece of his plywood.

Eammelli called 911 to report the stabbing around 11:45 p.m. Wednesday. McDonald was taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where he died early Thursday morning.

Eammelli was taken the Madison Precinct for an interview. After consulting with the District Attorney's office, detectives released Eammelli around 5:30 a.m. while they continued to investigate his claim.
