MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - Six years after the mysterious disappearance of Marcie Smith, her son Kevin is now speaking out about what he thinks happened to her.

Kevin Smith said he believes his father, Palmer Smith, killed his mother, but he cannot prove it. Neither can police, who have considered Palmer Smith to be the prime suspect in the case.

Palmer was convicted three years ago of tampering with evidence and lying to Murfreesboro Police the day his wife disappeared.  But he's never been charged with murder and Palmer denies any wrongdoing.

"I feel in my heart she is dead. I don't believe she could be alive anywhere and somebody killed her," said Palmer in an exclusive interview last month.

But Kevin Smith -- who is estranged from his father -- said his parents always argued about money and the fights could get physical. Kevin believes one fight went too far.

"There is no other suspect in my mind," said Kevin referring to his father. "My mom had no enemies."

The only hard piece of evidence in the case is video showing someone pulling a bike from Marcie's SUV and riding away the day she disappeared. Based on the clothing and body posture Kevin Smith said there's no doubt it's his dad.

"I mean, that's him," said Smith looking at the video.

He also believes his father mailed the infamous body map to himself.  Palmer turned the mysterious map over to police, claiming someone sent him a map showing where to locate his wife's body. But no DNA evidence was recovered from the map linking Palmer to the letter.

Marcie Smith's body has never been found and the case remains open. Kevin Smith hopes some new piece of evidence surfaces that leads to the arrest of his father.

Palmer Smith continues to proclaim his innocence. He is appealing his convictions for tampering with evidence and lying to police. The 82-year-old remains free on bond. If his conviction is upheld, he will have to serve one year in prison.
