Police Search For Suspect After Market Shooting

Posted: Updated:

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Police are searching for a suspect who shot and killed a man after an attempted robbery at a market in West Nashville Friday afternoon.

Police said 32-year-old Moises Cedeno, from Clarksville, was shot and killed outside Lee's Market at 310 17th Avenue North.

According to investigators, Cedeno was sitting in the front passenger seat of a van in the parking lot while his co-worker went inside the market around 12:30 p.m.

Surveillance video showed the gunman walk by the van and look into the rear window. The suspect then pulled up the hood of his jacket and confronted Cedeno at gunpoint during what seemed to be an attempted robbery.

Cedeno put his hands out the window in what police say looked like an apparent defensive reaction. That's when the gunman fired, hitting Cedeno in the leg. The victim was able to get out of the van and go inside the market.

Cedeno was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center where he died.

The gunman may have fled in a nearby vehicle. He is described as a black man in his teens or early 20s. He has a fade haircut, longer on top with shaved sides and back. Anyone who recognizes the suspect from the surveillance image is urged to call CrimeStoppers at 74-CRIME.
