NASHVILE, Tenn. – More than a hundred performers took to the stage Friday night at Bridgestone Arena to pay tribute to George Jones.

The "Playin' Possum: The Final NO SHOW" tribute concert was a sell out and a show Jones started planning last year as his farewell concert. He died in April and that is when the concert was transformed into a tribute.

Artists from several genres of music took part in what has been called the largest concert in the history of country music.

Dierks Bentley performed the Jones hit "I Always Get Lucky With You."

"It's unbelievable who's in this room tonight. It's a special night for country music. I don't think there's ever been a night like this in country music ever before. I'm excited to be part of it and see great performances, and sing my song," Bentley said.

When Jones started organizing the artists he wanted to perform at his farewell concert, he personally reached out to the performers.

"You know that we got letters, handwritten from George, inviting us to be a part of the thing. We do have that now. It's sad that he's not here with us. But I kind of think that he's here with us in spirit," said Suzy Bogguss.

The backstage area of Bridgestone Arena was full of stars walking around and waiting for their moment to sing a George Jones hit on stage. The atmosphere in the room made it clear the show was a celebration of the legend's life.

"We're not here to mourn George. We all miss him, and wish he was still with us, but we're really here to celebrate his life, his music. You don't see long faces back here, everybody is smiling, happy and glad to be here," said country music artist Bill Anderson.

A large screen was set-up on the plaza outside of Bridgestone Arena and broadcast the concert for fans who were not able to get tickets to the tribute show.
