MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) - Fire officials in Memphis said a woman has died after a house fire that consumed the structure.
Fire Department Battalion Chief Keith L. Staples said the woman died at the Regional Medical Center's Burn Unit late Wednesday night. Her name was not immediately released pending positive identification and the notification of family.
Staples says the blaze broke out in the one-story home at about 10:47 p.m. Wednesday. During an interior search of a bedroom fire crews found an adult female, who was transported in critical condition to the Regional Medical Center's Burn Unit where she later died.
The cause of death remains unknown pending the Shelby County Medical Examiner's report. One man escaped prior to the firefighters' arrival. He was treated for smoke inhalation.
