Speaker Ramsey's Daughter Prepares Run For Local Office
KINGSPORT, Tenn. (AP) - Senate Speaker Ron Ramsey's daughter has picked up papers to run for local office in Sullivan County.
The Kingsport Times-News reported that Sheena Ramsey Tinsley has been issued a petition to run in the Republican primary for the county's register of deeds, a position that pays more than $85,000 a year.
The GOP incumbent, Bart Long, tells the newspaper he will not seek re-election in August.
Tinsley works as an agent in her father's real estate and auction business, and is listed as the secretary of the Sullivan County Republican Party.
Ramsey has been the speaker of the Senate, a position that also carries the title of lieutenant governor, since 2007. He made an unsuccessful bid for governor in 2010.
