NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The holiday season has officially begun and many families marked the occasion by buying a Christmas tree. This year the supply is at its best, but there's less time to pick one up.

"The shape (and) the size," Jane Howard said about picking the perfect tree. "I like it bigger, the kids like it smaller."

Every year, the day after Thanksgiving, Jane Howard visits the Christmas Tree Village at Hillsboro High School.

"Just started when my son was born and been coming here for 25 years," Howard said.

Twenty-five years later, Jane and her son are back with even more company.

"I'm with my son and my daughter-in-law and my future grandchild," she said.

Thanks to this year's weather they have even better trees to choose from.

"This year North Carolina in the mountains had more rain than ever recorded in the history of record keeping," Christmas Tree Village Owner Joel Wilson said, "at least in my area."

The current weather conditions maintain the quality, but it's time that's not on your side with six fewer days until Christmas.

"Thanksgiving was on the 21st last year. I mean it seemed like eternity 'til Christmas," Wilson said. "This year it's fast-moving and that's what we like. We like action."

It didn't take long for Howard and her family to choose the perfect tree.

"We get ornaments every year with kids name on them," she said. "And this year I'm having my first grandchild and I have an ornament (saying) baby on board."

Now it's time to decorate.

"That's the first part of Christmas. Now it feels like Christmas," she said.

Fresh Christmas trees should be keep it in a cool and safe environment, which includes away from fireplaces, heaters and televisions. Don't forget to unplug the lights when you're not home and before you go to bed.
