KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - The national Pi Kappa Phi Fraternity says it is closing a chapter on the University of Tennessee campus.

The Knoxville News Sentinel reports that the group's National Council decided to close the Alpha Sigma Chapter for "failure to abide by the fraternity's standards of conduct." The announcement does not specify what actions caused the closure.

According to public records from UT on reviews and disciplinary actions taken against fraternities, Pi Kappa Phi was found in the spring to have "engaged in activities expanding the Fraternity's Ritual." The records show the addition to the ritual "involved placing the new members under emotional distress and physical discomfort."

The Alpha Sigma Chapter had been placed on disciplinary probation through the end of spring semester 2017.
