COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – Three people were injured in a crash involving two vehicles in Putnam County.
Officials with the Tennessee Highway Patrol said the collision was reported at 5:50 p.m. Sunday on Highway 70 near State Route 56. They said 85-year-old George Shanks was injured along with his 64-year-old wife Brinda Shanks. Sixty-three-year-old Jimmy Brown was also injured in the crash, according to investigators.
Troopers said Shanks was traveling with his wife westbound on Highway 70. They said he somehow crossed the median and struck the other vehicle head-on.
According to the Tennessee Department of Transportation, the highway was closed for nearly an hour as a result of the crash.
Officials said the Shanks were both transported to Cookeville Regional Medical Center. Their condition was not immediately known.
Investigators said George Shanks will be charged with failure to exercise due care and driving without a license.
