NOLENSVILLE, Tenn. - Millions of shoppers will purchase or use gift cards during the holiday shopping season and many of those very gift cards were produced in middle Tennessee.

As people fill malls and retail stores looking for that perfect gift this holiday season, many gift buyers will stick to a gift that doesn't take a lot of thought, but most people will appreciate.

"We all have cards in our wallets, plastic cards in our wallet, but we never think about how they're made," said Stephen Prince, owner of National Business Products in Nolensville.

Each week a million of those gift cards are manufactured at NBP and during the holiday season, you can expect a demand for even more.

"We probably print 1,300,000 or 1,400,000 a week during the holidays of the last four months of the year," said Prince.

There are 60 employees doing everything from the printing press room to the art department.

Jeremie Benzinger said the big reward for him comes when he sees their work out in stores.

"You know we do jobs nationwide so whether you're up in Michigan or out west somewhere or down south, you're going through and finding these places and then you're like, 'hey I did that card," said Benzinger.

Prince started in the gift card making business in 2000, six years after starting the printing company out of his home.

Right now, Price said the company is printing cards for 180,000 merchants and shipping them around the world including Central American and South American countries.

Once the cards leave the printing press they head to another part of the building where they are encoded with magnetic stripes and packaged for consumers to purchase in stores.

Gift cards are a $2-billion dollar a year industry with around 25 companies in the country that manufacture gift cards.
