New 12 South Restaurants Has Neighbors Concerned

NASHVILLE, Tenn - A new business in the works for Nashville's 12 South neighborhood has residents worried crowded streets and lack of parking will only get worse.

The owner of the new restaurant, Flipside, hopes the fix is built into his business plan.

The architect and the owner held a community meeting Monday night.

They want the city to let them build closer to the sidewalk than what city code normally allows.   Those that attended were more concerned about the lack of parking in the area.

"If you live in this neighborhood you know that parking is a huge issue for a couple of other restaurants here," one attendee said. "Lawsuits have been filed. Where are people going to park?"

The owner said the restaurant will be bike themed - and will give special discounts for those who don't drive.

"That theme will also carry onto the inside we're going to encourage everyone to bike there, said owner Jason Sheer. "We're also going to do some family bike rides on Saturday and Sunday mornings."

There are seven spots around back of the building, but that will likely be for staff and handicap parking.

Sheer said he's got an agreement with a business around the corner for 18 other spots - but with a capacity around 60 or so - the hope of pedestrian and bike traffic is a big part of the plan.
