NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Family members of a Robertson County mother and grandmother who was allegedly killed by her boyfriend in a house fire Sunday morning are worried they may never truly know what happened to their mom.

"We have no answers and we'll always be wondering why?" said Jackie Moran, holding back tears during an interview on Tuesday afternoon.

Jackie's mother, Kim Moran, was trapped inside her home on Jack Teasley Road as it burned to ground in the early morning hours on Sunday. Authorities said they are working to determine if she was killed before the fire started or as a result of the fire.

"For someone to take such a great woman away who fought all her life for her kids? She did everything she could to make sure we were all taken care of," said Moran. "And this man, we respected him you know? Then come to find out he does some like this?"

The Robertson County Sheriff's Office said Kim Moran's boyfriend, 49-year-old David Greenwood, died following the shootout Monday night with Etowah Police Officers in McMinn County.

Etowah Police said Greenwood opened fire on officers outside the Bi-Lo on Highway 411 around 8 p.m., and they returned fire.

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation said Greenwood was injured, and taken to a Knoxville area hospital. He died from his injuries Tuesday morning.

The Robertson County Sheriff's Office named him as a person of interest after finding Kim Moran's body inside her Pleasant View home.

"My mom is gone forever and we have no one to run to. She knew everything about our lives, everything," Jackie said about losing her mom, who at 39 years old leaves behind four children and three grandchildren.

"She was the best woman, I don't understand," her sister Jessica added.

An autopsy is under way to determine whether Moran was killed before or after the blaze.
