Home Partially Destroyed By Fire; Firefighter Injured

Posted: Updated:

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – A firefighter was injured while battling a house fire in south Nashville late Tuesday night.

Officials with the Nashville Fire Department said a fire broke out late Tuesday night at a house located on the corner of Marc Drive and Cloverland Drive.

Fire officials said part of the home was completely destroyed by the blaze, while the other portion of the home sustained heavy smoke damage. They said there were seven family pets inside the home at the time of the fire. Only two of the pets were able to be rescued, according to officials.

Crews on the scene reported that one firefighter was injured while battling the blaze. He was taken to Southern Hills Medical Center and was reportedly treated for a shoulder injury.

The fire department department had to call out several engines since the closest fire hydrant was several houses down.

"The biggest challenge we had was getting our water supply because it was down the road. But once we got that we were able to put the fire out pretty quickly," said District Fire Chief George Owen.

Officials said neighbors told them the family was not home at the time of the fire.

The cause of the fire remained under investigation.
