Defense Attorney In Vanderbilt Rape Case Charged With Harassment

Posted: Updated:

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – One of the defense attorneys in the high profile Vanderbilt rape case was arrested Tuesday in Robertson County.

Clarksville Police charged Fletcher Long with misdemeanor harassment. The charges stem from a complaint filed by Christie Overstreet Hill, a former employee of his law firm in Clarksville.

The warrant is based in part on text messages allegedly sent by Long to Hill, but Long denies sending the messages in question. He said Hill is a disgruntled former employee.

Hill told NewsChannel 5 Tuesday that she filed a harassment report Monday and that the magistrate issued warrants for Long's arrest.

"Because of the context of the messages and Mr. Long's conduct, I was urged to seek an order of protection for myself and my son, which was signed by the judge," Hill said in a statement to NewsChannel 5.

Long is part of the legal team representing Brandon Vandenburg, one of the four former Vanderbilt football players charged with raping a 21-year-old student on campus earlier this year. All have pleaded not guilty, and a trial date has been set for two of them next August.

Long has since been released on $250 bond.
