MT. JULIET, Tenn. – A Wilson County man was arrested after a manhunt in a Mt. Juliet neighborhood. The search forced the lockdown of a nearby elementary school.

Officials from the Mt. Juliet Police Department said 21-year-old Shawn Neal from Lebanon was driving recklessly on Belinda Parkway in a residential area around 11 a.m. Wednesday when an officer attempted to pull him over.

They said Neal refused to stop and led the officer on a short chase before the vehicle he was driving in hit a fire hydrant and flipped. The car ended upside down in the yard of a home at the corner of Belinda Parkway and Alsdale Drive.

The suspect fled the crash scene on foot.

Several officers were called to the scene to help in the manhunt. About a mile away, Rutland Elementary School was placed on a soft lockdown as a precaution.

After receiving several tips from neighbors, officers were able to find Neal around 1 p.m. under the rear deck of a home about two blocks away.

Neal was transported by ground to a local hospital for possible injuries sustained in the crash.

The officers found a large amount of marijuana and pills in a backpack Neal was carrying.

Officials said Neal faced multiple charges, including reckless driving, evading arrest and possession of illegal drugs.
