GERMANTOWN, Tenn. (AP) - Postal officials are telling residents of Germantown not to worry about that white stuff on their mail - it's not poison.

U.S. Postal Service spokesman David Walton says mail recipients in the Memphis suburb may notice a white film on letters received Wednesday. That's because a fire extinguisher burst and dispersed a white substance inside the Germantown post office, covering the mail delivered there.

Postal officials said the residue is not hazardous and determined safe by the poison control center.

There was no additional damage or delay to mail. Walton says it's not clear why the extinguisher exploded.

Germantown is a city of about 39,000 people east of Memphis.
