NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The owner of a Nashville bar has been charged in the shooting death of singer, Wayne Mills.

Officials with the Metro Nashville Police Department said 44-year-old Chris Ferrell has been charged with second-degree murder. They said Ferrell was taken into custody Friday afternoon at his attorney's office, located in downtown Nashville.

The shooting occurred on November 23 at the Pit and Barrel Bar, located at 515 2nd Avenue South in Nashville.  Police said Mills suffered a gunshot wound to the head shortly before 5 a.m.

Mills died later that evening at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

Detectives said Ferrell claimed he shot the 44-year-old singer in self-defense after an altercation inside the bar.  According to police, an argument ensued after Mills lit a cigarette in a non-smoking section of the bar.

Officials said after a thorough investigation was conducted, their findings did not corroborate Ferrell's claim that he shot Mills in self-defense.

Bond has been set at $300,000.

There were no other details immediately available.
