Icy Conditions, Speed Contribute To Fatal Nashville Crash

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – One person was killed after the car they were driving lost control and hit a utility pole.

Officials said 30-year-old Kevin Scott was killed when the car he was driving crashed into a utility pole. The crash happened on 3rd Avenue North at the Interstate 65 overpass Sunday morning.

The incident happened during the first round of precipitation was moving through the area. The bridge was icy in some spots due to the cold temperatures.

Investigators with the Metro Nashville Police Department said a combination of excessive speed, icy and wet road conditions all contributed to the crash.

The road was shutdown from the overpass to Buchanan Street while Metro's fatal crash team investigated.

Police said Scott was not wearing his seatbelt. They said there was no evidence of drugs or alcohol at the scene.
