Car Slams Into Building, Catches Fire; Driver Not Found

Posted: Updated:

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – A car slammed into a building in Donelson and caught fire overnight, but the driver was nowhere to be found.

Police said the car first hit a telephone pole before hitting a building and then a tree outside a business on Elm Hill Pike just before 1 a.m. Monday. It burst into flames.

When officers got to the scene, the driver was nowhere to be found.

Andrew Williams was working inside the building at the time of the crash.

"I heard a crash, a big boom, about a minute later I'm out here, car on fire, debris everywhere and can't find anybody," he said.

Williams works for the Tennessee Regional Safety Council, and ironically part of what they do is defensive driver training.

Police tracked down the car's owner, but he claimed it was stolen.

No arrests have been made.
