Federal Trial Date Set For Former UCDD Head

Posted: Updated:

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – A trial date has been set in the federal case against Wendy Askins, the former head of the Upper Cumberland Development District indicted on charges related to a million-dollar home in rural Putnam County.

NewsChannel 5 Investigates was there Tuesday as a federal judge set May 20th as the date that Askins and two co-defendants will go on trial.

Askins was indicted in September by a federal grand jury on a host of charges, including conspiracy, embezzlement, bank fraud and money laundering, alleging she diverted money to the "Living the Dream" facility. Also charged was her former assistant director, Larry Webb.

Dekalb County Mayor Mike Foster faces a single count of making false statements to the agency's board of directors.

Foster's attorney told the judge that he expects to file a motion later this week, asking that the charge against his client be dismissed.

A Putnam County grand jury also indicted Askins on state charges in October, including theft over $60,000, forgery and money laundering.
