Suspect Arrested; 4 More Identified In Driveway Sealant Scam

Posted: Updated:

GALLATIN, Tenn. – One suspect has been arrested and four others identified in what police have called a driveway-sealing scam. The men were suspected of scamming at least one person out of thousands of dollars.

Steve Jones of Gray, Kentucky was arrested and charged with theft. The Gallatin Police Department had been looking for the 32-year-old Jones since October.

Officials said Gray scammed a 79-year old man out of $5,000. They said Jones and several others offered to seal the man's driveway, but ended up ruining it instead.

The suspects reportedly offered to seal the victim's driveway in an attempt to get paid, but they used an asphalt sealant on the concrete driveway, vandalizing the driveway in the process. The asphalt sealant changed the look of the driveway to black asphalt.

Police caught Gray when he attempted to cash the victim's check.

Jones was booked into jail, and four other suspects have warrants out for their arrest. Among those suspects are the following:

  • James Boswell (29), from Keavy, Kentucky;
  • Eric Boswell (29), from Morristown, Tennessee;
  • Saul Boswell (56), from London, Kentucky;
  • Henry Small (68), from Princeton, West Virginia.

Officials also released the name of a known associate of the suspects, 26-year-old Dallas McVey from Gray, Kentucky.

Anyone with information about the suspects' whereabouts should contact the Gallatin Police Department at 615-452-1313.
