NASHVILLE, Tenn. - A North Nashville man suffering from dementia who was reported missing Thursday has been found.

Officials with the Metro Nashville Police Department said 70-year-old Thomas Lee Mason was found in the crawlspace of his caregiver's attic. They said he was found safe and in good condition on Monticello Drive near his home.

The search for the man began around 7:30 a.m. after he did not return to his home after a morning walk. Police and volunteers searched the area surrounding his home on North Avondale Circle near West Trinity Lane.

His family said he is known to take walks, but grew concerned when he did not return home.

"I was thinking about it was getting cold. He hadn't ate. He wasn't dressed. I was just really getting really terrified," said Mailene Offutt. Thomas's sister.

The Office of Emergency Management assisted Metro Police in the search.

Mason said he got confused and returned to the caregiver's home to stay warm.

"He probably wanted to come back home, probably looked around the corner and probably seen all the police and all that," said Offutt.

She said she hopes his neighborhood walks do not cause any more panic
