Bar Owner Charged With Killing Singer Released From Jail

Posted: Updated:

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The bar owner accused of shooting a well-known Honky-Tonk singer is out of jail.

Chris Ferrell was in court Monday for a bond reduction hearing. He is facing second-degree murder charges for the shooting death of Wayne Mills outside Ferrell's bar, Pit and Barrel last month.

Detectives said Ferrell claimed he shot the 44-year-old singer in self-defense after an altercation inside the bar.  According to police, an argument ensued after Mills lit a cigarette in a non-smoking section of the bar.

Officials said after a thorough investigation was conducted, their findings did not corroborate Ferrell's claim that he shot Mills in self-defense.

During today's hearing Judge Steve Dozier cut the bond from $300,000 to $150,000.  Ferrell was released from jail Monday evening.  He had been behind bars since his arrest on December 6th.
