CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – A Fort Campbell soldier was killed Monday evening when his motorcycle was struck by a pickup truck in Clarksville.

LaFrederick Gray, an E-4 active duty soldier at the post, was pronounced dead at the scene on Fort Campbell Boulevard.

Just before 7 p.m., police said Jonathan Hodge was driving a 1993 Ford Ranger when he turned left onto Lafayette Road from Fort Campbell Boulevard, and collided with a 2005 Yamaha YZFR1, driven southbound by Gray.

Witnesses told police Gray was traveling at a very high rate of speed when he entered the intersection. He was wearing a helmet, but police said it did not appear to be strapped on correctly.

Alcohol was not believed to be a factor in the crash, but police said they were awaiting toxicology results for both drivers.

No charges have been placed at this time.
