Fmr. Bedford Sheriff's Captain Accused Of Taking Money From Funds
BEDFORD COUNTY, Tenn. – A former captain of the Bedford County Sheriff's Department has been indicted for allegedly taking money from a fund collected from registered sex offenders.
The Bedford County Grand Jury indicted 58-year-old Rebecca Hord on one count of theft over $10,000, four counts of forgery and one count of official misconduct.
An internal audit discovered the missing funds in January 2012, and the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation began their investigation.
Investigators found Hord would take the money sex offenders paid as registration fees and issue generic receipts, but the county records showed they were in debt. In all, Hord took approximately $10,200.
The Office of Comptroller of Treasury, Division of Investigations also investigated the theft.
Hord was booked into the Bedford County Jail Monday and released on her own recognizance. A court date was scheduled for December 20.
Students in the Academy of Energy and Power at Maplewood are busy getting ready for next week's Project Expo and had the opportunity to show it off some of their projects to Tennessee Congressman Jim Cooper.
