Two Injured In Shooting On Underwood Street

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Two people were injured -- one critically-- in a shooting in north Nashville on Thursday afternoon.

Officials with the Metro Police Department said the shooting occurred around 3 p.m. on Underwood Street, near 17th Avenue North.

Police said 23-year-old Antonio Mitchell and 19-year-old Devontae Blackwell were approached by two men, who opened fire.

Both men were struck by the gunfire. Mitchell and Blackwell were both taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where Mitchell was listed in critical condition.

The motive for the shooting remained under investigation.

An officer responding to the shooting on Underwood Street was also involved in a two-car collision on his way to the scene. Officials said neither the officer nor the driver of the other vehicle was seriously injured in the crash.
