Spring Hill Man Wins $2M From Tennessee Lottery

Posted: Updated:

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – A Spring Hill man who won $2-million from the Tennessee Lottery just days before Christmas has previously won a big jackpot.

C.W. Whitson received a lump sum payment of $925,000, after taxes, at the Tennessee Lottery headquarters Friday. He won in the "Play It Again!" drawing in which players submit non-winning tickets to win remaining cash when a game closes out.

Whitson said he heard his cell phone and his home phone ring several times on Thursday night before he finally answered.

"It's been uphill ever since. I'm tickled beyond belief," Whitson said Friday.

Four years ago, Whitson won $1-million playing an instant game.

Whitson grew up in Asheville, NC, and is a retired handyman.

Eight others also won smaller prizes, ranging from $1,000 to $150,000.

The lottery usually holds three "Play It Again!" drawings per year, and has awarded more than $18 million since it began in 2007.

With Whitson's prize, the lottery has now sold 130 winning tickets of $1-million or more since its inception.
