CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – The known Christmas thief Mr. Grinch was arrested Sunday in Clarksville after authorities received a tip.

The Montgomery County Sheriff's Office said the 56-year-old, who resides on Mount Crumpit near Whoville, had been hiding in the area and was planning to steal Christmas trees, ornaments, decorations and presents from local households.

"We received a tip from Cindy Lou, of Whoville, who said after failing to stop Christmas in several other cities, he was headed to our area," said Sheriff John Fuson Sunday.

Investigators outfitted his dog Max with an undetectable tracking device and audio receiver, and learned Mr. Grinch had set up his operations in Dunbar Cave. He was allegedly planning to pay a visit to the houses of several elected officials in Montgomery County.

Once investigators gathered enough evidence, Grinch was arrested without incident.

"My hopes are that the citizens of our county can now have a very Merry Christmas, and enjoy their families and feasts without the fear of this anti-holiday beast," Fuson said upon helping book the Grinch into Montgomery County Jail. Then he turned to the Grinch and said, "You're a mean one, Mr. Grinch. You really are a heel."

Grinch was charged with theft, and booked into the Montgomery County Jail on $1-million bond.
