SHELBYVILLE, Tenn. – A church pastor in Bedford County has lost his home to a fire.

Brian Lindsey, pastor of the Whittaker Church of God in Bedford County, lost his home in a fire over the weekend.

But now, just a few days before Christmas, several members of his church have stepped up to help out.

Lindsey said he arrived home Saturday night to find his house, which was right next to the church, burned down. He said a propane heater likely caused the fire.

He said he was lucky that none of his family was home at the time. His two dogs were not seriously injured during the fire, either.

Now without a home, Lindsey said he's been amazed at the generosity of neighbors and other church members, who have come forward with gift cards, money and even offering the family a place to stay they look for a new home.

"It's wild how you can feel loss and love," Lindsey said.  "You feel so much loss, but people surround you and you feel so much love at the same time."

The American Red Cross has also provided a motel for the Lindsey family to stay while they look for a new home.
