Marshall County Girl Receives Gift From 'Guardian Angel'

CHAPEL HILL, Tenn. – The generosity of a complete stranger has given a 2nd grader in Marshall County a Christmas present she will always remember.

Eight-year-old Bella Hosford from Chapel Hill received the present last week. Inside the mysterious package were a silver locket and a note, signed by her "Guardian Angel."

"It just was really sweet. I love it because it's something someone did for me and it's just nice," Bella said.

In August of 2012, Bella's great-grandmother, Minnie Sue Watts, passed away from dementia at the age of 87. A year after her death in August of this year, Bella decided to send her Minnie a note attached to a balloon.

The note read in part "I love you. I want you back."

Bella and her mom released the pink balloon into the air and thought that would be the end of it until a package arrived last Monday.

"I go to the mailbox and get this box, and it had a ribbon attached to it. We opened it up and it had the balloon still attached – and part of her note and a silver locket someone had placed inside," said Bella's mom, Trisha.

Trisha believed a kind stranger found the balloon and note and delivered it back to their mailbox with another note reading, "Dearest Bella, MawMaw is always with you. Just close your eyes and you will see her. Love, Your Guardian Angel."

"It just gives you hope. There's so much mystery and we just wish we knew who did it," said Hosford.

Hosford said the package was not stamped and did not have any postage on it, indicating the gift was hand delivered.
