Suspects Accused Of Using Child In Shoplifting Case

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Murfreesboro Police Department was called out to investigate a bizarre case of shoplifting at a local department store.

They said on Sunday a man and woman used a young child, possibly their daughter, to help steal a pair of pink Ugg boots from the Belk store on Medical Center Parkway.

The man, woman and a 9- or 10-year-old girl entered the store. The woman had the girl try on the boots. The man and girl then walked out of the store with the boots on and got into a car.

When security approached the woman about the boots, she denied trying to steal them and then turned and ran.

Officials have asked for help from the public to find the adults who were with that young girl.

"She was told to put these boots on and wear them out of the store, so she either knew she was told to do wrong or she was raised to do this and doesn't think there was a problem with it," said Officer Amy Norville with the Murfreesboro Police Department. "Either way, it's bad parenting."

Police said the man and woman drove off in a Silver Chevy Impala with the license plate U66 77B.

Anyone who has information about the incident or the suspects should call police at 615-893-STOP.
