HOPKINSVILLE, Ky. – A 36-year-old man was killed after the vehicle he was driving went off the shoulder and struck a rock wall in Christian County.

The crash happened around 6 p.m. Thursday on Eagle Way Bypass between Princeton Road and Cadiz Road in Hopkinsville.

Officials with the Christian County Sheriff's office said William Matt Everett was driving south on the bypass when he lost control, went off the shoulder and slammed into the rock wall.

Everett was ejected during the crash. He was pronounced dead at the scene by the Christian County deputy coroner. He was the only person in the vehicle and was not wearing a seatbelt.

Emergency medical crews from the Herndon Volunteer Fire Department and Hopkinsville Fire Department responded to the scene.

The crash was still under investigation, but officials said speed was a factor.

It was unknown if alcohol or any other substance contributed to the crash.
