Trousers Save Toddler After Tumble Down Sinkhole

Posted: Updated:

BROWNSVILLE, Tenn. – A West Tennessee toddler's pants may have saved her life after the girl fell into a sinkhole during a walk with her mother.

The toddler was walking with her mother along a road near their home in Haywood County, when suddenly she slipped down a hole that had opened up in the ground.

Incredibly, her clothes snagged on the concrete around the opening and left her dangling. Her mother grabbed her, and pulled her to safety.

Officials said the sinkhole was about 7 feet deep. Making it even more dangerous, the ground around it was extremely unstable.

"It's a Christmas miracle," said Regina Williamson, the toddler's grandmother. "Miracles still happen even though Christmas is gone. It's a blessing that she is still here with us right now because that is a very deep hole."

Officials blocked off the sinkhole, and said they plan to have it fixed as soon as possible.
