Driver Runs Red Light, Strikes Metro Police Cruiser

Posted: Updated:

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – A Metro Police officer's squad car sustained damage after being involved in a vehicle crash in the Germantown area.

Officials said a male driver in a dark sedan ran through the red light at 5th Avenue North and Jefferson Street Friday night around 7:30 p.m., striking the cruiser.

Neither driver was injured.

The officer was not running his emergency lights at the time, but police said he had the right of way in the intersection.

The black sedan sustained significant front-end damage.

The driver was cited for failure to obey a traffic signal and driving without insurance.

Westbound lanes of Jefferson Street and both directions of 5th Avenue North were closed while police conducted their investigation.
