LOBELVILLE, Tenn. – Crews battled a massive fire at a rubber plant in Perry County.

Officials with Perry County Emergency Management said the fire occurred early Saturday morning at Bates Rubber, Inc. located on 2nd Avenue East in Lobelville.

Fire officials said the blaze occurred in an area attached to the main building of the plant. Four area fire departments responded to the blaze. They said it took at least three and a half hours to get the fire under control.

Even though crews prevented the fire from spreading, they said the attached building was a total loss. The fire did not spread to any rubber stored in the building.

Investigators said no one was inside the building at the time of the fire.

The cause of the fire was not immediately known.
