Posted: Updated:

MT. JULIET, Tenn. – Police said they are investigating a suspicious man who reportedly requested a Wilson County 8-year-old to get in his car.

Officials with the Mt. Juliet Police Department said the alleged incident occurred around 3 p.m. Sunday in Mt. Juliet.

The juvenile's mother told police that her daughter was playing outside when a man in a car initiated conversation. Police said the man requested the girl to get into his car.

According to police, the girl's mother yelled for her daughter to get away from him. As the man was driving off, he reportedly told the mother that her daughter did the "right thing."

Sergeant Tyler Chandler with the Mt. Juliet Police Department said it is important for children to be aware of what to do when approached by a stranger.

The suspect was described as a middle-aged, white male with gray hair. Investigators said he was driving a gray Chevrolet car.

Anyone with information regarding the incident has been asked to call Mt. Juliet Police at 615-754-2550 or 615-754-TIPS.
