MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – A 22-year-old man was killed and three others were injured in a single-car crash in Murfreesboro early New Year's Day.

Officials with the Murfreesboro Police Department said Robert S. Cook, of Burns, died in the crash along N. Rutherford Boulevard around 3:30 a.m. Wednesday.

Police said 30-year-old Shelia Holmes lost control of the vehicle in a curve and struck a center median. She then traveled back across the roadway, and struck a large utility pole and other things on the side of the road.

Cook, who was in the left rear passenger seat, died at the scene. Holmes along with front seat passenger 28-year-old Joan Bullington were taken to St. Thomas Rutherford Hospital with minor injuries. The center rear seat passenger, 22-year-old Jamarist Kelley, was taken by LifeFlight to Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville with serious injuries.

The right rear passenger, 23-year-old Nicholas Parker, was said to have left the scene before police arrived and has not been located.

A blood sample was taken from Holmes and an autopsy was ordered for Cook.

No charges have been filed as the cause of the crash remained under investigation.
