Posted: Updated:

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - A man who skipped out on his cab fare was arrested after forcing police to evacuate part of a Nashville hotel.

Officers said 22-year-old Michael Piergeorge ran into the Wingate by Wyndham on Royal Parkway after his credit card was declined in a cab.

When officers showed up, he refused to leave his hotel room and threatened to stab them with scissors.

Once he did come out, the smoke alarm inside started going off and smoke poured out from under the door.

Officers had to evacuate the hotel as fire crews put out the small fire.

No one was hurt.

Piergeorge was charged with theft and aggravated assault of an officer. He also faces drug charges after police found marijuana and paraphernalia in his luggage.
