Two Juvenile Girls Arrested For Christmas Day Brush Fires
MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Two juveniles have been arrested in connection with several
fires set in Rutherford County on Christmas Day.
Officials with the Murfreesboro Fire and Rescue Department said
crews responded to several brush fires on a property near Agri-Park Drive in
Murfreesboro last Wednesday.
Crews arrived on the scene just after 12:30 p.m. last Wednesday
and worked to extinguish the fires. A large hay bale and an abandoned barn
also had to be extinguished.
The Fire Marshall's Office was called in for further
investigation. Tracy Summar, Assistant Fire Marshall, said another fire near
the area had also been intentionally set but had already been put out when
crews arrived on the scene.
Investigators were able to identify two suspects they believed to
have set the fires. Both suspects were females under the age of 18.
The suspects were both charged with a count of reckless burning.
They appeared in court this week and were then released to their parents.
Students in the Academy of Energy and Power at Maplewood are busy getting ready for next week's Project Expo and had the opportunity to show it off some of their projects to Tennessee Congressman Jim Cooper.
