NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Seven people are looking for a new place to stay after flames chased them out of their North Nashville home on Sunday morning.

"Everything we own is in that house, everything. Why God did this have to happen on a Sunday?" said Brandon Jennings as he watched firefighter put out on spots on the house he rented.

Firefighters got to Toney Road around 11 a.m. but by then the smoke and flames already had the upper hand.

"I just don't understand this," Jennings said in disbelief.

Jennings managed to get out of the burning house with his 2-month-old, 4-year-old and 9-year-old. His wife was at work as their home burned.

"It's a total loss, nothing," he added.

Firefighters also tried to revive the family's puppy, but it was too late.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation. The Red Cross is assisting the Jennings family with trying to find temporary housing and clothing.
