MOUNT PLEASANT, Tenn. - A new company could soon be heading to Maury County, taking jobs to people who need them.
Will Evans with the Maury County Chamber and Economic Alliance confirmed that UST, Inc. purchased the 96-acre site on North Main Street in Mt. Pleasant.
While details are under wraps, until an official announcement, the company is slated to build a 500-thousand square facility. Phase one of the project could provide as many as 180 jobs.
The land was purchased for $2.6 million, and county officials say it's a big step forward.
"This is a big commitment by the company for the company to be purchasing such as this, and spending the kind of money shows a good faith effort on their part that they're really committed to bring this project to Mt. Pleasant," said Evans.
Maury County officials couldn't yet give a timeline for the project or say what kind of jobs this manufacturing facility will bring.
Students in the Academy of Energy and Power at Maplewood are busy getting ready for next week's Project Expo and had the opportunity to show it off some of their projects to Tennessee Congressman Jim Cooper.
