Murfreesboro Churches Raise Money For MTSU Students
MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Churches across the City of Murfreesboro gathered to raise money for local college students.
The many congregations gathered Sunday at World Outreach Church, located on Salem Road, to raise money for students at Middle Tennessee State University who are in need of emergency funds.
Money raised tonight will go to students who have experienced unexpected debt that could compromise their education.
"It is the brain child of the first lady of MTSU, Liz McPhee we've had some conversations about some of the struggles that many of our students are having in regards to being able to afford to stay in school," said Sidney McPhee, the President of Middle Tennessee State University.
This was the first time MTSU has held this event. The event was part of the school's True Blue Community Initiative.
Students in the Academy of Energy and Power at Maplewood are busy getting ready for next week's Project Expo and had the opportunity to show it off some of their projects to Tennessee Congressman Jim Cooper.
