Officials: White Powder Delivered To NES Not Dangerous

Posted: Updated:

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – A white powder delivered to Nashville Electric Service in downtown Nashville was not believed to be dangerous, according to fire officials.

A full Hazmat crew from Nashville Fire Department was called to the building on Church Street around 7:30 a.m. Monday. NES said an employee opened an envelope containing the suspicious powder, and the area was immediately quarantined after notifying security and emergency officials.

Approximately ten employees in the area where the item was found were decontaminated at the scene as a precaution, but none reported any symptoms.

Deputy Fire Chief Kim Lawson said on-scene testing detected nothing suspicious about the substance. It will be taken to a lab for further analysis.

NES said business was not interrupted, and their building remains open to customers.
