CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. - Hundreds of law enforcement officers were in Clarksville Wednesday to pay tribute to a Montgomery County Sheriff's Deputy who died in the line of duty.

The funeral for Deputy David "Bubba" Johnson was held at 2 p.m. at the First Baptist Church on Madison Street.

A full honor guard wason hand for the service. Following the funeral, a procession started downtown onto Commerce Street before heading to the burial at Sango Cemetery.

Deputy Johnson died late Sunday night after his car ran off a bypass on U.S. 41 and ended up crashing into a tree. The 52 year-old was driving his police cruiser and was on routine patrol when the crash happened. It's still unclear what caused him to veer of the road, and the crash remained under investigation.

Johnson was in law enforcement for most of his life. He worked for the Sheriff's Office for 16 years, and for the Clarksville Police Department for 11 years. Before that, he worked for Montgomery County Emergency Medical service for four years.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Clarksville Girls Softball Association, P.O. Box 3391, Clarksville, TN 37043.
