NASHVILLE, Tenn. – A man from Lauderdale County has been added to the state's Top Ten Most Wanted list.

Officials with the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation said 58-year-old Stephen Daryl Melton is wanted by the Lauderdale County Sheriff's Department and the TBI. He has been charged with Theft of a Motor Vehicle, Felony Escape, Initiations of Meth Manufacture, Promotions of Meth, Possession of Prohibited Weapon, Felony Possession of a Weapon, Evading Arrest and Felony Vandalism.

Lauderdale County Sheriff's Department officials said deputies were called to Melton's house on Thumb Road in Henning, Tennessee on reports of drug activity. Deputies searched the home and said numerous weapons, as well as materials used to make methamphetamine were found inside the home.

Melton was placed under arrest and placed in the back of a patrol SUV. Officials said the deputy was called back into the house and during that time, Melton kicked a hole in the Plexiglas, and fled the scene in the vehicle.

The SUZ was later found crashed in a wooded area on Copper Creek Road near the Wildlife Refuge.

The TBI said Melton has a criminal history of aggravated assault, traffic and drug charges and is considered to be armed and extremely dangerous.

Melton has been described as a Caucasian male with gray hair and brown eyes.

Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Stephen Daryl Melton has been urged to call TBI at 1-800-TBI-FIND or the Lauderdale County Sheriff's Department at 713-413-7499.
